Supporting tamariki & rangatahi back
Helping rangatahi find their next step.
Finding the right pathway can take time. Our Career & Training Support team works alongside rangatahi to build confidence, develop skills, and explore opportunities that align with their strengths, goaals, and aspirations.

Building confidence, skills, and pathways for the future.
Every young person’s journey looks different. For some, the next step might be employment. For others, it might be returning to education, starting training, building confidence, or figuring out what direction feels right.
Our Pathways programme supports rangatahi aged 15–24 who are not currently engaged in employment, education, or training, or who need extra support to move forward. We recognise that getting to the next step often involves more than finding a job, many young people are also navigating challenges such as disrupted education, low confidence, financial pressure, housing changes, or limited support networks.
Our approach focuses on building the foundations that help rangatahi create sustainable futures. Through one-to-one coaching, group learning, practical experiences, and personalised pathway planning, young people develop confidence, communication skills, workplace readiness, and a clearer understanding of their strengths and goals.

Support that goes beyond a job outcome.
What makes this support different is the relationship at the centre of it.
Our team walks alongside each rangatahi, providing consistent encouragement, guidance, and practical support as they explore their options. Whether that leads to employment, education, training, or another pathway, our focus is helping young people feel prepared and confident in their next step.
Support doesn’t stop once an opportunity is found. We continue to check in, help navigate challenges, and provide ongoing encouragement as rangatahi adjust to new environments and build momentum.
Creating real pathways through connection.
Strong pathways are built through strong relationships.
We work alongside employers, training providers, education organisations, and community partners to create opportunities for rangatahi to gain experience, develop skills, and connect with industries they are interested in.
By combining practical opportunities with ongoing support, we help young people move towards futures that feel achievable and meaningful.

Building confidence, creating pathways.
Young people engage with our Employment Services at many different stages of their journey, often facing a combination of practical barriers, low confidence, and uncertainty about their future.
When a young *Jade first connected with Te Tahi after being referred by her MSD Case Manager, she had recently left school and was struggling with confidence and independence. At her initial appointment, she arrived with her mum, speaking very little and avoiding eye contact. Over time, through tailored one-on-one support, she began building confidence and identifying her strengths, while also addressing practical barriers that were limiting her access to employment opportunities.
After completing her first First Aid course, her first group activity since leaving school, Jade gradually stepped outside of her comfort zone. With transport identified as a key barrier, support focused on building her independence through public transport before progressing toward a longer-term goal of gaining her learner driver licence, which she successfully achieved.
For other rangatahi, barriers can look different. *Lucy connected with Te Tahi after completing study and looking for employment, but previous negative workplace experiences, anxiety, and instability at home had impacted her confidence and ability to maintain work.
Through Employment Services, Lucy received practical support including CV development, interview preparation, employment workshops, and ongoing coaching, alongside wider wraparound support through Te Tahi, including counselling and ongoing wellbeing support.
Since engaging with the programme, Lucy has secured employment and transitioned into more stable part-time work. With continued support and regular check-ins, she is building confidence, workplace stability, and clearer pathways toward her future goals.
