Helping rangatahi navigate life’s challenges.
Helping rangatahi navigate the things life puts in their way.
Our social worker provides practical, relationship-based support for rangatahi, working alongside our wider team to help navigate the challenges that can affect their health, wellbeing and everyday lives.

Support that looks beyond the immediate issue.
Young people can be dealing with a lot at once.
Housing difficulties, financial pressure, family relationships, education, mental health and other challenges can all affect how a young person is feeling and how they are managing day to day.
Our social worker works alongside rangatahi to understand what is happening, identify what support might help and work through practical next steps. This can include advocacy, helping navigate services, supporting young people through difficult family or relationship situations, connecting them with other organisations and helping them understand their options.
The support is guided by the young person. Sometimes that might mean helping solve a particular problem. Sometimes it is about advocating alongside them or simply having someone they trust to work things through with.

An integrated approach to support.
What makes our social work service different is that our social worker is embedded within the wider Te Tahi Youth team.
They work closely with our nurses, counsellors and youth development staff, allowing us to understand the different things that may be affecting a young person's wellbeing and respond in a more connected way.
A young person might come to us with a health concern that is connected to what is happening at home. Someone accessing counselling might also need help with housing or another practical issue. Rather than sending them from one service to another, our integrated model means the right people can work together around the young person.
This approach helps us look beyond the issue in front of us and consider the wider circumstances that can affect a young person's health, wellbeing and ability to move forward.
