Eastgate is starting to take shape.
For a long time, the new Eastgate space has been plans, drawings, funding applications and conversations.
Now, you can walk through it and see where things are starting to come together.
Construction is progressing smoothly, with the team at Studio DB keeping the project well on track and, in some areas, moving ahead of what was originally planned. The walls are in, painting is underway and the rooms are starting to take shape.
We’re currently on track for the construction to be completed by the end of September.
For Te Tahi Youth, this is a pretty significant milestone.
More than four walls
The new area is a standalone part of our wider tenancy at The Loft, Eastgate Mall, and will give us dedicated rooms for clinical and other services.
Around 40% of the young people we support live in the east of Ōtautahi, so being based at Eastgate makes sense. It is accessible by public transport, has plenty of parking and provides the anonymity of being within a busy shopping centre.
It also means we can bring more of our services together in one place. The design has been shaped around how our teams work and how rangatahi access support, creating an environment that is practical, welcoming and fit for purpose.
The next step: fitting out the rooms
While the construction is moving quickly, finishing the building is only part of the job.
Once the contractors are finished, we need to fit out the rooms and make sure our clinical team has the equipment they need to provide care.
That includes everything from examination equipment and clinical furniture through to the practical supplies needed to make each clinical room fully functional.
Much of the funding for the project is already in place, thanks to the organisations, businesses, trusts and individuals who have backed Te Tahi Youth throughout the process.
But there is still an opportunity to help us get everything ready.

Help equip a clinical room: We are also looking for supporters who would like to contribute towards the equipment needed for one of our four clinical rooms. A contribution of $3,000 can help equip a room with the essential medical equipment and clinical supplies our team needs.

There is still work to do before we can welcome rangatahi into the new rooms, but we’re getting there.
